TECHO is a youth led non-profit organization present in Latin America & the Caribbean. Through the joint work of families living in extreme poverty with youth volunteers, TECHO seeks to overcome poverty in slums. TECHO is convinced that poverty can be permanently eradicated if society as a whole recognizes poverty as a priority and actively works towards overcoming it. Therefore, TECHO pursues three strategic objectives: (1) The promotion of community development in slums, through a process of community strengthening that promotes representative & validated leadership, drives the organization and participation of thousands of families living in slums to generate solutions of their own problems. (2) Fostering social awareness and action, with special emphasis on generating critical and determined volunteers working next to the families living in slums while involving different actors of society. A bike trip across South America for TECHO

Hello, We are two curious, adventuresome and highly fortunate 19-year-olds who have just finished freshman year in the privileged bubble of Northwestern University and are now itching to explore the great wide world. As the school year wound down we decided to spend our summer vacations cycling across a continent neither of us has visited: South America. And so we will, in a few days time, be embarking on the adventure of a lifetime, as we set off from Arequipa, in Peru, to bike through western Bolivia and across northern Argentina, to Florianopolis, in Brazil: 3,000 miles in 70-days! We expect most of those days, and many of the nights, to be physically challenging, but we also hope to experience some true marvels of natural beauty. We are, however, aware that, in many of the communities we will pass through, most of the people are living in poverty. And we are, therefore, determined to ensure that our trip will make a positive difference to as many of them as possible. So we have chosen to raise as much money as we can for TECHO, a multi-award-winning non-profit organization that tackles poverty throughout Latin America. TECHO represents the voice of the people who are excluded from society - those who have been denied basic living necessities and rights. TECHO answers their call by connecting youth volunteers in the region to slum residents in order to build transitional houses and establish community development programs to ensure sustainability. Your donation will impact these communities by providing children with school support workshops, labor training for community members, houses for those without, and more. Please join us in contributing to the vital work of TECHO, and help us to make our special journeys as valuable as possible to as many of the most deserving as possible. With great gratitude, Alfie and Jacob For more information regarding TECHO please visit: www.techo.org/us

Mac-appella for TECHO

Founded in 2010, Mac-appella has quickly grown into a recognisable society at Macquarie University. In 2011, we were officially registered as a student society, and held our first Mac-appella Music Night, a bi-annual event which has been held at the end of every semester since. The high turnover of members each semester means that Mac-appella members find themselves constantly meeting new people who share a love of music and singing. We pride ourselves not only on giving great performances, but on our group's diverse nature, and the camaraderie which comes from working towards and achieving goals. Mac-appella performs not only at Macquarie University - where we can be seen at the Graduation Ceremonies, Student Awards Nights and often heard in the courtyard by the lucky passerby - but at Blackheath Choir Festival, at various Christmas carol events, and even at weddings! It doesn't matter if you are a new singer or an experienced artist, if you love music and singing, we'll love you! Mac-appella members are not just singers, but a group of friends, brought together through music. TECHO is a youth led non-profit organization present in Latin America & the Caribbean. Through the collaborative work of families living in poverty with youth volunteers, TECHO seeks to overcome poverty in slums. (3) Political advocacy that promotes necessary structural changes to ensure that poverty does not continue reproducing, and that it begins to decrease rapidly. Together Mac-appella for TECHO aims to raise the cost of one transitional house for families living in poverty in Latin America. Support our cause! WithHAITI Keep moving forward

This education enhancement project was chosen by the community together with TECHO. Through improving the education infrastructure by repairing the community school, this project will have a positive impact on the community and increase children's attendance and participation in school. This project is part of TECHO's #WithHAITI campaign that marks the 5th anniversary of the 2010 Haiti earthquake. After five years of ongoing work, together with residents, the non-profit TECHO implemented a participatory needs survey in communities in La Hatt, La Digue, Onaville, Gariche Prince and Royal. The communities came together to discuss the needs of more than 15,000 people that live in these areas and they decided on priority projects in the areas of water, schools, public squares and public lighting. To ensure that the projects the community wants and needs can be executed, TECHO launched the initiative “Move with Haiti” (www.techo.org/conhaiti) which seeks to raise USD 200,000. “In Haiti we know what we want, but we also know that we can’t do it alone. We need funds and work that provide support for the development of Haiti,” declares Olson Regis, Director of Social Programs for TECHO-Haiti. Despite challenges, residents working with TECHO succeeded in setting up participatory community structures to organize themselves. Through the community organizing committees, more than 80 neighbors and more than 7,000 volunteers are continuously working together and promoting processes of self-management and empowerment. Haiti develops itself Five years after the devestating 2010 earthquake, the peripheral zones of Port-au-Prince have been developed through Haitians' self-management of community projects accompanied by the organization TECHO. TECHO's first response post-earthquake was to build transitional houses for families that lost thier homes, mainly in the Canaan area. The efforts continued over the last five years and now TECHO has worked in 18 communities implementing community organization and development programs alongside residents and community leaders. TECHO-HAITI’S IMPACT IN NUMBERS - 6 community-organizing committees in 5 communities - +7,000 international and Haitian volunteers working for the development of the country - 2,345 families involved in the building of transitional houses - 10 infrastructure projects carried out - 356 residents have graduated from skills training programs - 195 children have participated in educational programs - More than 70 community leaders have contributed to the self-management of their communities.

Santi's First Olympic distance triathlon for TECHO

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dear family and friends, This April 19th, besides being my fortysomething birthday, I´ll be running the Life Time Tri South Beach, my first Olympic distance triathlon, to raise money to build houses in slums for communities in Costa Rica together with my friends from TECHO. In July 2015 many other volunteers and I will travel to San Jose to build these houses with our own hands, alongside the future owners of the house. The more money we raise, the more houses we will be able to build and thus, more families will have a decent home to live in. I am grateful for your support, either as a birthday present, which will inspire me to train harder, or to help those families who really need it. DONATE NOW-Atacama Flood

Devastating floods in northern Chile have left at least 25 people dead, according to the country's disaster agency, and more than 30,000 people have been affected. The floods, which started on March 25, submerged entire towns and dislodged thousands of tons of dirt. TECHO is working alongside the Chilean government, ONEMI (National Emergency Office) and community leaders in order to mobilize over 1,500 volunteers to build emergency homes with the families. All the funds raised by TECHO-Chile will be used for shipping logistics and volunteer maintenance in the north, as the financing of emergency housing will be funded entirely by the ONEMI. We invite you to donate now to support the families in need. Any contribution big or small is greatly appreciated and will be sent directly to support the relief efforts. Best Regards, TECHO -US

Support Beatriz as she joins TECHO's Mission

This year I told myself that while taking a break before venturing off to law school, I wanted to take a trip that would allow me to touch someone’s life in a positive way while at the same time make a lasting memory for myself.I found the perfect opportunity to do so through a building trip in Cost Rica through TECHO. Volunteers from across the nation will be traveling this July 2015 to build transitional houses for those families living in extreme poverty, in Costa Rica. My vision is to see a world where everyone’s basic necessities are met. Im aware it won’t happen over night, but I want to start making make a difference and this building trip will allow me to feel a sense of accomplishment and purpose in my life. I’m enthusiastic and willing to make this trip happen and it is with this purpose that I ask for your support and contribution. Not only will you be helping me reach my goal but you will be part of the movement to alleviate poverty and make a difference in the world. THANK YOU, Beatriz Albisu TECHO is a nonprofit organization that mobilizes youth volunteers to fight extreme poverty in Latin America, by constructing transitional housing and implementing social inclusion programs.
