Hi World! My name is Adrienne Ballreich and I am a student at Juniata College. I chose Juniata because of the great study abroad programs and their unique focus on peace emphasis and efforts throughout the world. Throughout the year at Juniata, I participate in various clubs including Student Alumni Association, Big Brother Big Sisters, and PAX-O (the peace and conflict studies club). By being part of these clubs I am able to donate my time to help the Juniata and surrounding communities. I have a job on campus during the school year as an assistant in the Alumni Relations office. I continue this job throughout the summer, but also in the summer I work in the Marketing Department at Juniata College and at the Stone Town Gallery and Cafe in Huntingdon, Pennsylvania. I spend my free time working out or hanging out with friends and family. I like to keep up-to-date on both local and international news so I am constantly checking online and on my phone for interesting updates. read more

Yearlong Study Abroad in Germany

For my junior year of college, I applied and was accepted into a study abroad program at Philipps- Universität in Marburg, Germany. There I will study in the Political Science undergraduate program in both the English and German languages. This will give me a chance to further develop my German language skills. Not only that, I have already contacted my academic advisor in Germany and she approved by request to sit in on some of the master’s level courses! Notably, this opportunity of a lifetime comes with many expenses along the way! To help pay for my study abroad experience I am working three summer jobs in my hometown community and at Juniata College. Unfortunately, the $7.25 USD per hour minimum wage is not enough to cover an entire year of necessities and travel expenses. So, looking for alternative payment options is a must. I received an Eagles Abroad scholarship from Juniata College. This scholarship will go toward my tuition. Despite the scholarship and savings from my jobs, I am still left with the expense for my flight and other expenses that will accumulate in the upcoming year. My flight to Europe and return to the United States next year will be about $1,200 USD roundtrip. While in Europe, I will stay in a student apartment rented out through and located near the Philipps- Universität in Marburg, Germany. Unfortunately, I have to find my own accommodations during the two months long winter holiday break. This will be a huge expense, and I am hoping to raise $800 USD to help cover the price of accommodations and food during this time. I truly look forward to experiencing the German culture during my yearlong study abroad at the Philips- Universität! Please help make this opportunity a lasting and positive experience.
