I am a motivated student, driven to succeed by my love of learning. I am fascinated by everything medical, but after sustaining a traumatic brain injury, I am interested in the brain in particular. I have even given a speech to my entire school about my experience with traumatic brain injuries. When it comes to education, I consider myself a sponge! I always try to absorb as much information as I can and always prefer learning over memorizing. I love to volunteer in my community and contribute to a better world in any way I can. I pride myself on participating in a large variety of activities, including dog training, gymnastics coaching, volunteering, songwriting, leadership positions and tutoring. I am a Blood Drive Volunteer for the American Red Cross which involves registering new donors and providing yummy treats. I am co-head of the Pride Alliance at my school. I also volunteer at my local hospital as a therapy dog handler. I bring my Therapy Dog International certified black lab to the hospital and we visit with patients to provide emotional support. This is one of the most fulfilling positions I have held and I decided that my school could benefit from a similar experience. I then became the founder and co-director of a program called Paws to Play. About once a month, a group of therapy dogs come to our school to have a two hour visit with our community. I attend an academically challenging boarding school for girls, so needless to say, a group of stressed high school girls in a room full of cuddly dogs was a huge success! I am proud to say that this program was the first of it's kind in a boarding school! In addition, I shadow a physician at my local hospital every week. This opportunity has made me incredibly confident in my career path. read more
