I am a junior at Thomas Jefferson High School of Science and Technology. I have been a volunteer tutor since 8th grade and have seen the impact I have made on the students I have helped. In the summer after my sophomore year, I decided to do private tutoring on my own. I wanted to teach Computer Science to 5th-8th grade students. So, I placed an ad on Craigslist and sent a few emails to some families I knew with younger children. I managed to get a group of 6 students for the summer and I earned a few hundred dollars by doing something I love! Now I want to help other high school students reach others in their community and share their knowledge with others while saving some money towards their college or for other expenses. read more

Tutoring website for young tutors

I want to create a platform where young high school and college tutors can be matched with elementary and middle school students looking for help. Over the summer, I wanted to tutor young students in computer science, but when I put up an ad on Craigslist, my ad got overshadowed by adults who had more experience but also were more expensive. I knew that there are tutoring websites where adults advertise and parents search for tutors. But I was looking for a place where High-School students could inform the parents that we can teach their children at a much more affordable rate, probably as good as or sometimes even better than some adults - whether it is Computer Programming, Math, Grammar, Public Speaking, Swimming, or Soccer & Tennis. Since I couldn't find any such site devoted to student-tutors, I decided to create this site to cater to students like me who love teaching others and are looking for some reasonable compensation for their time and effort. This site also caters to parents who are looking for affordable and good tutors and believe that passionate and enthusiastic High School or College students can help their children. It's a win-win situation for all!
