Alayne Studies Abroad in New Zealand

What I'm Fundraising For

Hello everyone, my name is Alayne Chipman and I am currently a sophomore double majoring in Architecture and Interior Design at the University of Idaho. As many of you know, I have been given the amazing opportunity to study abroad at Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand for Fall 2017 of my junior year with ISA (International Studies Abroad). It has always been a dream of mine to travel and study in a foreign country, and this experience will allow for me to continue pursuing my education while also being immursed in another culture. I feel that as a designer it is extremely important to be able to relate to people on many different levels, and in order to build those connections it is vital that you experience cultures and ways of life that differ from your own. I am so grateful that I have been granted this opportunity to expand my comfort zone and world views, and continue to follow my passion in the design fields. You can learn more about the abroad program I'm attending here: https://www.studyabroad101.com/programs/isa-study-abroad-in-wellington-new-zealand

Why This Is Important To Me:

This opportunity is quite a big financial undertaking for me. As a 4.0 student, I put my education at the forefront, and because of this I have been recognized with scholarships that continue to allow me to fund my education. Unfortunately, the timeline of payment for this opportunity does not align with the award period of scholarships, and I am left unsure of how I will support my study abroad. The total cost for my education abroad is $14,000 and the deadline for this payment is April 15. I am currently in the process of applying for multiple scholarships both within and outside of my university and I partake in a federal work study at my university to help pay for my school expenses. I plan on working full time this summer and doing additional tasks for others in order to raise funds for my study abroad, but I am still greatly in need of assistance. It would mean the absolute world to me if I were able to receive support and help in funding my education abroad. This experience has already been extremely humbling for me, and I would love to show others just how much of an impact it has had on my life.

How I Will Use The Funds:

Throughout my fundraising period for my education abroad, and while I am abroad, I plan to keep this page updated with the scholarships I have been awarded so that those organizations can receive the recognition and gratitude they deserve for helping me follow my dream. It will also allow me to help keep my donors informed about the progress I have been making on my own to support my endeavor. The funds raised for my study abroad experience will go towards my overall fee of $14,000. This is an all encompassing expense that covers my tuition and student fees, international health insurance, and on-site support from the program I am going through, International Studies Abroad. My flights and housing are not included with this price.

Strategy & Perks

My Strategy To Reach This Goal:

I know $5,000 seems like a large amount but any size contribution is GREATLY appreciated. If you do not feel like you can financially donate, the GoEnnounce platform makes it really easy for you to help me spread the word about this goal via Facebook or email, so please share, share, share!

Perks:

An amazing thing about the fundraising platform I am using is that it allows me to stay connected to my donors and share my experiences abroad through a blog and updates. I plan on posting multiple times a month to share what I am learning in school and through experiences, information about the city I am staying in, and pictures and stories from my travels while abroad. If you feel that you would like to be a part of my continued education and you are comfortable with donating, please know that it is greatly appreciated and does not go unnoticed. I hope that I will be able to share my story and education with you, and that you can take away a slice of Kiwi life from down under.

Today I have some very exciting news! I was notified that I was the recipient of TWO scholarships, each for $1,000. They came from The Sons of Norway: King Olav V Norwegian-American Heritage Fund and the Kootenai Electric Cooperative. These scholarships have been such a blessing in paying for my education abroad and I am very thankful for the companies and organizations that made them available.

I'm happy to announce that I have successfully renewed my Idaho Opportunity Scholarship offered by the Idaho State Board of Education. The exact award amount is still to be determined, but in years past I have been awarded $1500 per semester. Again I would appreciate all the help I can get in spreading the word of my fundraising goal for study abroad, and I love and appreciate all the support I am receiving from my friends and family! Please help me by sharing this mission! Any amount truly does help.
