My name is Tiffany Combs. I am currently a third year architecture student in the college of design. I am a member of the UK AIAS, and have a part time job at Starbucks in town. When I describe my lifestyle and personality traits to new people, I like to state that I consider myself an avidly creative person. I am one to enjoy the do-it-yourself culture. I believe that I am witty, intelligent, passionate, compassionate, and have a good work ethic. In having that type of culture as such a huge part of my life, I find myself designing a varying range of things outside of just architecture. I have built various pieces of furniture, as well as, helped my family renovate houses in Central Kentucky. I have learned how to use different types of saws, lay wood floors, and turn a dreadful piece of wood, metal or tile into something beautiful and functional. I have seen the insides of a wall frame and can distinguish between materials that need to be put into a household to make it work. Although, I am not yet a professional, I am slowly achieving my goals in terms of my architectural career. In my program we are taught how to control and manipulate form to fit the needs of the individual as well as the whole. We are taught through a many semesters of history how, when, who, where and why buildings and projects matter. We are taught how to design spaces, small and large, how to orient a building or surface in accordance with sun paths, wind patterns and natural elements of the site it will be placed on, and how to calculate the amount of materials needed to make an environment safe and efficient in terms of human comfort. The program I have pushed my way through over the course of just three years provides a very relevant and reliable pallet for my goals in the design world. I know that by the time I graduate I will be equip with the proper tools and knowledge to succeed in any aspect of life - whether it be my career, my friends, my coworkers, or my community - this degree has taught me the importance of punctuality, articulation, attention to detail, respect and time management. read more
