My name is Danielle, and I am a sophomore in college. What makes me up is that I am a giver. If there is a blood bank in need, I'm there. If a club needs help organizing a fundraiser, I'm their woman! I frequent the Humane Society, the Place of Grace (it gives out free meals), and I am always looking for ways to volunteer. Whether it's a medication drop-off, a Color Run 5K, or any event in my town, I am there. My favorite event that I participated in so far this year was the 2014 Polar Bear Plunge. It was completely wild and fun, and my team raised over $2,600 for the Wisconsin Special Olympics! I'm now a yearly polar bear. read more

Operation Italy

'Tis a big and beautiful world. Most of us live and die in the same corner where we were born and never get to see any of it. I don't want to be most of us."-Oberyn Martell I have always wanted to travel. I grew up in small-town South Dakota, and I dreamed of the day I could see the world. Now I'm in college, and it's possible! So, why Italy? Why not, I say! I want to travel everywhere, and Italy sounded like a great place to start. The trip is March 7th-14th, 2015. We will be traveling to Assisi and Rome, and visiting the historical places that St. Francis ventured upon. To be accepted to go, you must apply for the trip and my school accepts you based upon your GPA, class grades and involvement on campus. The class we take with the trip is a 3 credit called Franciscan Servant Leadership. My university is Catholic, and mission seminars is its way to create well-rounded citizens. Franciscan Servant Leadership is all about living life the way St. Francis did, with hospitality and kindness, and being a leader by servitude. Here is the link for details about my trip. http://www.viterbo.edu/uploadedFiles/administration_and_services/Global_Education/AssisiFlyer2015globallogo.pdf Newest update: the Sunday morning we arrive there, we will attend mass at the Vatican!!!! I can't express how wonderful that is, I am so very happy. For my dear friends, here is another link which you might find useful. It includes reviews from students who have traveled to Assisi, and how they loved it! http://www.studyabroad101.com/cities/italy/assisi
